Mitsubishi LaserVue L65-A90

The 65-inch Mitsubishi LaserVue L65-A90 is a special HDTV, a very special HDTV.  You will probably know of LCD HDTVs, Plasma HDTV and maybe also OLED HDTVs, but do you know of a laser HDTV?

The Mitsubishi LaserVue L65-A90 is the world’s first laser powered HDTV, no LCD or plasma displays here.  Using laster beams to provide an extensive range of rich detailed colors with clarity and impressive depth of field. The laser light surpasses the other current HD display technologies, and provides 2x the color detail by reproducing a color gamut in excess of 200% of the standard, current HDTVs.

Another benefit of The Mitsubishi L65-A90 is it’s power consumption, using just one third of the power of a similar sizes LCD or plasma HDTV, at just 135Watts.

So we have better colors, and lower power consumption, what else does the Mitsubishi LaserVue L65-A90 have to offer?  We full HD 1080p screen, Plush 1080p engine, Deep Color / x.v Color, “High Contrast” , Smooth 120Hz high frame rate, and a number of image enhancing features.

The Mitsubishi LaserVue (Laser view, as some way) L65A90 is aso 3D ready, allowing you to view true 3D content via the supplied 3D glasses.   It’s far from one of the cheaper HDTVs, but it’s also a world’s first, providing some stunning images, which are noticeably improved over typical LCD and plasma HDTVs.

When compared to a Sharp LCD and the impressive Pioneer Kuro plasma HDTVs, the colors were reported as noticeably more impressive, with blacks almost as good as the world leading Kuro, and also better at maintaining details during high motion better.

Lastly, the Mitsubishi LaserVue L65-A90 is a good investment as the set will not suffer from color degradation over time, as some other technologies do.

NanoVibronix cleared to market ultrasonic painkiller PainShield MD

by Samuel Axon, posted Oct 27th 2008 at 6:01PMNanoVibronix’s PainShield MD reminds us (a little bit) of DARPA’s wound-healing ultrasound wrap, but its purpose is to stop pain, not bleeding. The pocket-sized device emits ultrasonic waves through a disposable patch that can easily be slapped onto the patient’s skin. The fundamental tech isn’t new, but NanoVibronix is hoping doctors and patients will pick PainShield up because it’s portable and convenient; the patch means medical personnel don’t have to hold or operate anything during treatment. It’s just been cleared by the FDA, so it should reach the market soon-ish.

BlackBerry Bold up for pre-order at Best Buy: $680 smackers

by Darren Murph, posted Oct 27th 2008 at 8:14PM
We already knew RIM’s BlackBerry Bold would sell for a stiff $299.99 on contract with AT&T, but if you’re one of the many AT&T users who’d rather not sign a new agreement (or renew your current one), you’ve probably been patiently waiting to hear an unsubsidized price. Here is it, but we’re warning you, you might want to sit down. The contract-free Bold is listed at $679.99 at Best Buy, and fittingly enough, the product page offers a convenient link for seeking financing. At any rate, it also tells us that pre-orders will typically ship out within one to two weeks, though we’d be hesitant to bet the farm on that. After waiting for, like, ever, for this handset to finally hit shelves, are you still so anxious to drop nearly seven bills to claim one as your own?

[Thanks, Christen]

New Xbox Experience videos let you vicariously play dress up

by Samuel Axon, posted Oct 27th 2008 at 10:29PM You already know the Xbox 360 is getting new community features, a revamped dashboard, Avatars, and of course Netflix video — all things we’ve been excited about since we saw them in action at E3 this year. There hasn’t been much to go on since then, but we recently came across some short videos exhibiting Parties (which let users socialize and make plans while engaging in separate games and activities) and Avatar customization options; hopefully they’ll hold you over until the features go live November 19th. We won’t be held responsible for the brain deterioration caused by the vacuous marketing-speak accompanying the moving images, however. “It is where you get to enjoy entertainment — that’s the vision.” Yes, it is.

G1s said to be “pouring into China,” selling for big bucks

by Donald Melanson, posted Oct 27th 2008 at 5:12PM
Google may still only be the number two search engine in China, but it looks like it’s starting to make some serious inroads into the sketchy cellphone market in the country, with the Android-based G1 reportedly now “pouring into China” though some dubious channels, and demanding some pretty hefty prices. According to China’s DoNews, the handsets are selling for upwards of 3,999 Chinese yuan (or just over $580), with shops charging an extra $70 or so to unlock it for you. That, some unnamed sellers say, is likely to keep the cost of the phone high in the short term, despite a reasonably high supply level.

Smule Sonic Vox

We have covered iPhone applications from Smule before, like the Sonic Lighter, which gives you a flame for your portable touchscreen. While there might not be a practical use for a virtual flame, Smule has released the Sonic Vox, something that will bring even more fun.

Sonic Vox has no flame to play with, but you can have some fun playing with your voice. This isn’t some application where you record your voice, and the Sonic Vox distorts it on the playback. The Sonic Vox will distort it in real-time.

All you need to do is set the pitch and the level of echo effect on the touchscreen. You can then make yourself sound like someone like Gollum. It reminds me of the Optimus Prime voice changer toy, but without the blue mask.

According to Smule, they say the Sonic Vox can work from phone to phone, but my source says that it does not work that way. However, if a Sonic Vox iPhone is hooked up to a speaker, MacBook, or boom box, then you can still have lots of fun channeling your inner James Earl Jones.

So if you want to have fun playing with your voice, then you can shell out 99 cents to the App store for the Sonic Vox.

LG Dare Review - InfoSync

InfoSync reviews the LG Dare and writes, “The LG Dare has one of the best cameras we’ve seen on a camera phone. It’s as good, if not better than any of the Nokia Nseries phones, like the Nokia N78. That still doesn’t mean it’s as good as a real point-and-shoot, and we saw some problems with image quality, like serious fringing around the edges of objects and some strangely colored halos that appeared at the edges of buildings where they touched the sky. Colors looked pretty good, and under the best lighting conditions the images were perfectly acceptable. But even the best cameraphones have a ways to go before they truly replace digital cameras.”
