Writing Spoon creates food fonts

Is it even worth the effort for our parents to repeat that golden adage? “Don’t play with your food!” How can we not when there are so many gadgets which encourage exactly that? It’s not always easy being a geek. The word itself encourages the breaking of rules and boundaries. And such is the downfall of geek obsession.

But we’re not talking about murder or anything purely sinful. The Writing Spoon is simply a gadget which makes playing with your food a more organized activity. This spoon and ballpoint pen hybrid transforms your eating utensil into a writing instrument. It’s a rare opportunity to make the spoon mightier than the sword.

Spanish designer Julie Mariscal created the Writing Spoon with a special incision on the tool’s tip to create a pen-like effect. Fill your spoon up with coffee and create your own caffeinated doodles. Maybe you can even create your own Starbucks coffee-themed font.

Believe it or not, this spoon is beyond the conceptual stage and is available for purchase from Mariscal’s website. You can grab your own Writing Spoon for €20.86 ($31) and be on your way to creating your own liquid writing.

Henry the Hoover

I think I need a USB-powered vacuum for my notebook keyboard, what with my late nights in front of the computer and all, along with a steady diet of pizza and other pastries which tend to leave plenty of crumbs in between my keys. Henry the Hoover looks like a pretty nice guy to help me out in my crumbed predicament.

Now in a mini desktop size, this Henry the Hoover is your desktop crumb buster. Pop in the batteries, press on and get vacuuming up the remnance of your tea break. Empty your crumbs by unscrewing Henry’s hat and tipping the contents into the bin. Silly yet practical, this cheeky chappy deserves a space on any self respecting biscuit fan’s worktop.

Powered by a couple of AA batteries, Henry the Hoover will retail for £9.99.

Samsung’s MX20 camcorder allows direct video upload to iPod, YouTube

Although Samsung’s MX20 SD camcorder may fall a bit behind other camcorders available on the market for not having an HD video recording feature, it still is worthy of our attention and perhaps money because of one outstanding feature. And that is the facility to directly upload video into YouTube or iPod from the camcorder without needing to transcode the video files.

To some, that feature more than makes up for not being able to capture high-definition video but well for some, that would be a turn off. If you’re one of those who don’t mind the lack of HD quality, you’d be glad to know that the Samsung MX20 nonetheless kicks out some high-standard features that include H.264-enhanced video quality, 3D noise reduction technology, a Schneider lens with 34x optical zoom, Hyper Digital Image Stabilization, advanced face detection technology, a 680K CCD sensor, a swivel hand-grip, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, iCheck and iScene modes and a very important SD/SDHC memory card slot.

The Samsung MX20 SD camcorder will be available in the Japanese market sometime in September. And our Japanese pals will have a choice of either black, white, red or blue. Pricing details are not yet available but we expect this to come with a lower price than most of the cheap HD camcorders currently available. For us non-Japanese camcorder-loving geeks, we may have to wait for awhile before the MX20 gets an international release.

Screen2 offers shared remote web browsing without any downloads

So you’re trying to explain to your girlfriend which nifty little gadgets are on your wish list for your birthday. She’s confused, well, probably because you have twenty of them and many sound very similar, but that’s beside the point. Problem solved. Now you can simply direct her to the Screen2 website and show her exactly what you are talking about. She can see in real time exactly what you are looking at on your screen. Pretty cool eh? What makes it even better is that absolutely no downloads or installation are required to run the program, so there are no worries of any invasive viruses attacking your system from a third-party site.  The only thing you have to do is make sure to allow pop-ups and cookies while you are on the Screen2 site. (delete ‘em later)

Screen2 doesn’t work like a desktop sharing application; because it runs entirely from the browser, you are able to surf web pages in realtime with anyone you want. You can use this feature in a couple of ways. Show someone how to do something on a web page. Work on planning a trip together…walking through the itinerary. Shopping. Show your friends all the cute people you’re meeting on those dating sites. (hey, we won’t tell).

It’s simple to work. All you do is type in your name, find your friend’s name, and invite them to join you. That’s pretty much it. Just be careful you don’t accidentally invite your mom to join you when you’re checking out those questionable sites.
